Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT)

In my life and work over the years, I have found that EFT is a wonderful method for helping us say “yes” to whatever it is that we face.  In and of itself, this acceptance brings us a greater sense of peace.

However, EFT has a profound transformational power as well.  It’s a paradox, but once we really acknowledge a negative situation and the negative emotions, thoughts or belief patterns that have had an impact on us (keeping us ill, or stuck), and once we get to the roots of the conditioned responses that create and maintain the painful emotions, they begin to “move through us” and things change.

Rather than being stuck or blocked by painful emotions (such as grief or fear or anger), as we gain more emotional freedom, we begin to be free enough for the body to heal itself from physical pain or illness, down to the cellular level.

What is EFT?

Based on the ancient principles of acupuncture, EFT is a simple tapping procedure that gently realigns the body’s energy system without the discomfort of needles. Unlike other energy healing methods, EFT incorporates an emotional element to the healing process, addressing unresolved emotional issues as a likely cause of physical disease, psychological dysfunction, and personal performance limits.

Negative emotional experiences disrupt the energy meridians that run through our body.  The physical changes we feel from those disruptions, like nausea or anxiety, become attached to the memory of that experience and affect the way we see the world…until we heal that disruption.  Properly applied, EFT quickly realigns the energy meridians with respect to negative memories, disconnects the physical discomfort that we had attached to it, and quite often removes the resulting symptoms.

EFT has been clinically effective in thousands of cases. The uses are numerous, including:

  • Trauma & Abuse

  • Stress & Anxiety

  • Fears & Phobias

  • Depression

  • Addictive Cravings

  • Weight Loss

  • Children's Issues

  • Chronic Pain

  • Headaches

  • Breathing Difficulties

  • Chronic Fatigue Syndrome

  • Fibromyalgia

  • Allergies & Sensitivities

  • Blood Pressure

  • Colitis

  • Cancer

  • Multiple Sclerosis

and endless other physical, emotional, mental and spiritual issues.

EFT and Chronic Illness

Our bodies are incredibly resilient and able to heal from all kinds of imbalance.  So why do some people get chronic illness and others do not?   Why do some recover and others do not?

Science is showing more and more how our emotions play an important role in our health.  Sometimes, traumatic events in our lives are not processed, and repressed emotions, or strong (often unconscious)  beliefs resulting from this unprocessed trauma contribute to our physical deterioration and our propensity for illness.

In conventional medicine, and even sometimes among naturopaths, the question of why a person became ill in the first place is not considered.  However, as a homeopath and EFT practitioner, one of the first questions I ask is:

"What was happening in your life before or during the time you became ill?"

Sometimes people know exactly what happened before they got ill (such as the death of a loved one, loss of a job, relationship difficulties) and we work on that; sometimes we have to do a little more digging.  These kind of events are enormously challenging and stressful events. How we respond to them determines the impact they have on our bodies.

Some people have experienced so much abuse and pain in their lives that it takes several months of working on repressed emotions before they begin to notice significant relief.   We often have to do exploratory work to uncover unconscious beliefs that might sabotage a person (e.g. with one client we discovered that being ill was a way or to avoid  the enormous stress of having to be “perfect at everything” so that she could gain others’ approval).

However long it takes, one thing I know for certain is that this process works!  I combine BodyTalk and EFT with homeopathy and flower essences, all of which are extremely gentle, even for the most sensitive person, and, more often than not, the results are profound.

I have trained extensively in EFT over the last 6 years, both in the U.S. and in the U.K.  I have taken many formal trainings, and have individually trained for over one year with Tina Craig, Gary Craig's daughter.  I am certified as an Advanced EFT Practitioner through the Association of Comprehensive Energy Psychology and also certified through EFT Universe.
